• Questions Collective makes art that is based in a sincere occupation with social issues.
When setting up a project, we start with a story or topic that we want to address and then find a suitable artform that best serves that specific story.

  • Feminism, intersectionality, (self)care, imagination, joy, nature, community, anti-racism, freedom, magic, to name some.

  • Our broad backgrounds in design, music, theatre, dance, poetry and fine arts allow us to combine several different artforms.
Together we create immersive installations, performances, music, costumes, films and workshops.
For examples of previous works, see our portfolio.

  • Everyone who is involved in our work is part of the collective. This includes collaborating artists, but also the audience and the location of the work. To us, an audience member is not simply a spectator or consumer, but an important part of the work itself. And an artwork is inseparable from its context and from the way it is perceived. That is why we always think critically about the role of the audience in our work.

When collaborating with artists, we give them as much artistic autonomy as possible, so they become a (temporary) part of the collective and have ownership over the work. In Questions Collective we blur lines of ownership, to go beyond the idea that an artwork can be claimed by a single artist. The future is collective!

  • Depends on who you ask! We all start at a different point in the artistic process. We could tell you all about it.
But if that is too vague: At least once a week we get together in our studio in Amsterdam. We create our own work and we work on commission. We also developed several workshops on collaborative working. Contact us if you have questions!

  • Questions Collective’s birthdate is a bit of a mystery. In 2016, a group of friends, that also happened to be artists, formed “the motivatieclub”, meeting up to chat about their aspirations and challenges. We embarked on our first collective project that year, but soon realized our long and complicated names were a nightmare for poster makers. So, we opted for the simpler name "Questions Collective." In 2022 we made it official by registering as a foundation. And that's the story of how this collective came to be!

  • At festivals, in fields, parks, playgrounds, museums, galleries, art schools, farms, conferences, our studio in Amsterdam (NL), and sometimes at home.

  • Is glitter a colour?

  • It’s our unofficial kid, and the mascot of our artistic energy, which can be a bit chaotic and weird - and sometimes feel a bit alien to others. It lives inside of us, and don’t worry it doesn’t bite - most of the time.

  • We see it as the task of artists and designers to actively shape the world around them. We can add new stories, question the status quo, and build new realities. We don’t believe we can change the world as a whole, but we do think we can do it in smaller entities, like bricks. And the good thing is, if we build a brick, someone else can use that brick for a road, a house or .. who knows what structure.

In this way our artwork, but e.g. also our workshops on collaborative working, enables others to create, to feel, to learn about other perspectives or to question the world around them too.
